filming children with Downs syndrome

Star in the new videos!

For the next set of Learning For Life videos, we will be exploring how to be healthy, and caring friendships. We are looking for our next stars on the screen! Including real-life video footage of your young people (with or without Down’s syndrome) within the videos not only allows them to feel represented in the media but, most importantly, gives them the context to translate what they are learning into their everyday life.

If you and your child or young person are happy to be included, we are asking for you to send us your videos and/or photos for use in the new videos and for general use online and in printed media.

What to do?

Here are some instructions on how you can film and upload your pictures and videos:

  1. Your camera must be landscape (this means filming with your phone on its side and NOT standing upright as you would for platforms like TikTok).

  2. Use a good quality camera. This could be a relatively up-to-date mobile phone or any other device, like a digital camera or high quality tablet.

  3. Hold the camera still! Ideally, the camera must not move when you film, so always film from an angle where you can stay still and not move. Perhaps use a tripod, or prop your phone on a solid surface.

  4. Film in a bright or well-lit area. Outside is brilliant if possible, but just make sure you're not in the shadows.

  5. Keep the background clear of other people.

  6. Upload your pictures and/or videos using the link below. YOU MUST READ THE DECLARATION BEFORE UPLOADING. Find the button at the bottom of this page.

We cannot guarantee the footage will be used. We will need to consider a variety of production factors, as well as the number of videos received.

We are hoping to use a lot of the submissions, so don’t let this put you off! Here is the list of different videos/photos we need. No need to do them all, just pick the right ones for you.
