Independent Evaluation
Does it work?
Independent evaluation has been at the heart of Teach Me Too since the beginning. Reports were initially commissioned in 2020, while Teach Me Too was in its early stages and part of the Kent-based support group, 21 Together.
More recently, we have been working with independent professionals to evaluate the project use in Hertfordshire schools.
Results
“Staff were very clear that they had changed their practices to better support the learning needs of the children they support as a result of having access to Teach Me Too. It has also given staff the confidence to know how to communicate more effectively, and to set the right pace, according to the needs of the child. “
“For the more experienced staff, the programme provided them with an additional set of materials that could be used alongside pre-existing provisions and for new and inexperienced staff it gave them confidence to apply this knowledge in their practice.”
Key findings:
Content, structure, and organisation were engaging for students and helpful for staff
Materials gave the staff greater knowledge of Makaton and confidence in their communication skills
The benefit of the resource extended to other non-verbal children on the SEN register and could have a wide-reaching impact
Staff were actively learning as well as teaching, developing their practices
