Here’s a note newsletter from Duncan, detailing more about their work.

Dear Learn and Thrive Community,

As the manager of Disability Horizons Shop and the father of a son with dravet syndrome, I'm always on the lookout for products that can make a real difference in the lives of disabled children and their families. I wanted to share some of our innovative solutions that promote learning, independence, and having fun!

Trabasack Curve Connect - The Ultimate Lap Desk and Bag in One

The Trabasack Curve Connect is a boon for children in car seats or buggies or anyone who needs a stable surface on the go. It functions as both a lap desk and a bag that can attach to wheelchairs, car seats, or buggies. The Curve Connect features a soft Velcro receptive surface, perfect for securing sensory toys, learning materials, or communication devices. Keeps everything in easy reach! The bag space can also be used for adaptive cutlery, clothing protectors or a trabasack mat to make meals less messy.

The Dyslexic Ruler Reading Aid is a helpful tool designed to help people with dyslexia or visual stress when reading

The ruler features a narrow window that helps the user focus on a single line of text at a time. This can reduce visual distraction and make reading easier.

●       There are a choice of colours and it just looks like a ruler. No stigma.

●       The ruler is designed to be used with any book or document,  easily move it down the page enabling a more fluid and focused reading experience.

●       The product is low cost, lightweight and portable, so it can be conveniently carried to school, work, or anywhere else reading assistance is needed. Easy to carry in a pencil case or pocket.

●       Using a tool like the Dyslexic Ruler can boost reading confidence and independence by providing a simple but effective aid for visual processing differences.

The Functionalhand is a helpful tool created by Celine Skertich, an occupational therapist, and Linda Merry, a physical therapist.

The Functionalhand is designed to hold objects of different shapes and sizes securely, allowing a better grip. It can be adjusted to hold things horizontally or vertically, making it very versatile.

By using the Functionalhand, children and adults with limited hand function can participate more easily in hobbies, self-care routines, and other meaningful activities.

The Functionalhand Universal Cuff  for poor hand function can help children with:

●       Pens, pencils, crayons, markers for drawing and handwriting practice

●       Spoons and fork for independent eating

●       Toothbrushes

●       Toys, paintbrushes, and musical instruments for play and leisure activities

By providing a secure grip on these items, the Functionalhand promotes skill development, confidence, and independence in daily activities at home, school, and in the community.
